who's been brainwashing our child?

This morning Caroline was holding my thumb, being silly.

I showed her how to do a thumbs up and then I said "now, say Gig Em Aggies."

She responded back with such confidence- "Hook Em Horns"

I just about died. Maybe we need to get out of this town!

Caroline got to go check out the firestation this weekend for her friend Nolans 3rd birthday. We went to the firestation first and then celebrated the rest of his birthday party at his house. It was definitely a big hit with the kids. We were really impressed with how friendly and patient all the firemen were. They really took the time to explain how everything works.

They have to be able to put all of this gear on in less than 60 seconds and it weighs about 60lbs.

When the fireman began breathing through the mask Caroline got a little scared and ran to daddy. We tried to explain to her that they are our friends.

How does she manage to flip all the way around (feet on pillow) and never sleep with her covers on? We must tell her every night, "Caroline, make sure you keep your covers on in case it gets cold." She never fails. One of our favorite things to do is watch her while she sleeps. How peaceful she is.

Elena turns 2!

Caroline's cousin, Elena, just turned 2. Where has time gone? She had her birthday party at one of those bouncy, jumping places. It was definitely a big hit.

U2 is coming!

I can hardly contain my excitement. I just got word from our friend Kathryn that U2 is going to be coming to Dallas in October. This is my all time favorite band. When Keith and I were still just dating he surprised me with tickets to the "Elevation" tour here in Austin. We like them so much that we walked into our wedding reception with "Beautiful Day." It will be so much fun to go and relive our youth! I hope I can find someone to watch a 3yr old and a 3 month old? :) They just released their new CD "No Line on the Horizon" of which I haven't had a chance to listen to. Don't you find this cover interesting? Apparently it's supposed to be the sea meeting the sky.

I've been reading through Dobson's book called "The New Strong-Willed Child" (for the 2nd time). I think it's a great read for anyone with toddlers, b/c really to an extent isn't every toddler strong-willed? It has taught me a lot about how to shape Caroline's will while also protecting her spirit. Most important it's also been teaching me how to discipline that little stinker.


Dobson opens the book with a little dedication...this makes me smile everyime I read it:

On Saturday mornings Caroline likes to have a "special treat" breakfast, which typically consists of waffles, pancakes, or donuts. This morning I left her in the kitchen to eat her waffles and I returned to find the red syrup-filled plate smooshed to her face. She wanted to make sure that the left over syrup didn't go to waste. That's my girl!
